Friday Night Music: High As Hope

I almost missed this new album by Florence + the Machine. It’s quieter and more confessional than her previous releases (relatively speaking – Florence Welch hasn’t lost that operatic thunder, she just holds it in reserve more often).

I’ve read that the lyrics of this song came from a private poem she wrote. I can’t stop thinking about this part:

At seventeen, I started to starve myself
I thought that love was a kind of emptiness
And at least I understood then the hunger I felt
And I didn’t have to call it loneliness
